Cake Factory

Built by Nate and Weston: Thursday, December 29, 2022

The Create mod had become extremely popular over the course of 2021-22, but we'd mostly been focusing on playing other games for most of that time period. When the Nosiphus server's activity levels were pretty high at the end of 2022, I helped Sean build a new clock for the parliamentary clock tower, but using Create allowed it to be an actual clock with a minute and hour hand. When I did this, I knew at once what I wanted to do.

Weston and I had talked about making some kind of cake factory in Minecraft for some time, but we'd never had a real amount of interest in making it functional. We'd made an attempt on Telkit II a couple years earlier, but that didn't end up going anywhere. Telkit IV finally gave us the tools we needed, and we got to work as fast as we possibly could.

As far back as 2015, the last time the server was using its original world seed and generator, Sean, Wyatt and I had built some docks in the area where we'd later build the factory. Sean had asked me to build a completely new, fresh docks in the area, and as such he gave me control over the surrounding area. In April 2022, I built a makeshift dock with some decorative cranes and crates, but they were only that: decorative. When I became aware of just how powerful Create was, Weston and I knew we could finally build the cake factory we'd always dreamt of, and we proceeded to do so.

The only request Sean had made to me about building a large facility was to not completely flatten the natural terrain as we'd often done in the past, but instead, to work with the terrain. We honored that, as Weston and I both knew the facility could look even better if it complemented nature instead of replacing it outright. Wyatt had decided to set up his own factory as well, replacing his long-running oil refining company with a food production one, so the two of us competed to build the best facility.
