Sean's House

Background

If anything can be said about 2020 in terms of how I spent my days, it was simple: endless hours of Minecraft. There wasn't much else to do, as quarantine had shut the whole world down, and being in a high-risk household meant I had to put my social life on pause.

At the same time, modding development on Minecraft 1.15 was going pretty well, and I decided to begin snapshots of Telkit Development Edition. With nothing else to do, I invited friends onto the test server in June. I had told them that nothing on this map may be permanent, but it didn't matter: the addition of a shader to the pack gave what would become Telkit 9 (now called Telkit III) an entirely new aesthetic, and it made Telkit 8 (now called Telkit II) look old and outdated by comparison. I'd upgraded my PC right before the pandemic as well, meaning the server had been migrated to better hardware. The massive uplift in performance, combined with the new aesthetic and the TerraForged world generator, caused all of us to fall in love with the new edition of the modpack, despite its bugs and crash-prone behavior.

As I played on the Telkit II survival server through the course of August and September, I kept finding myself envisioning a house. It had a similar aesthetic to that of Summer Breeze, but it was a completely different build. I'd originally had no plans on building it in-game, but after about a month, I decided to go ahead and do so, if for no other reason than to give Telkit Development Edition another test.

Construction

On October 26, 2020, I loaded up a singleplayer instance of Telkit Development Edition, called the world "The House," and I began to build. I started with the table. I envisioned myself sitting sideways in the chair next to the table, looking back and out the large window on the opposite side of the house. The kitchen was elevated slightly, with a bar complete with stools to sit on.

The house had a clean, solid white aesthetic, and was designed to let in as much light as possible. To this day, I consider it to be my best build alongside my castle. The building has been altered quite a bit since its original version, but it is still my house on the server to this day.

Remodel

I decided to rework the house a few times, but I finally settled on a look for the build with the Telkit IV version in 2022. It essentially improved the layout of the house by making internal areas, such as the hallways, bigger at the expense of some rooms that were oversized. It also tried to work everything onto a more grid-based layout.
