Background

My stint playing on BetaLands gave me a lot of time to enjoy what older versions of Minecraft were like. While I definitely enjoyed Beta, it began to feel like a standard version of the game. I decided I wanted something even older, and that's when I decided to go all the way back to Minecraft Alpha 1.2.6.

Multiplayer had been fun, but I decided I wanted to have one, constant, singleplayer world, just like I did back in the days of the Flying Clown House. I loaded up an instance of Alpha 1.2.6, and I began to play. I stumbled across an area that I thought was very pleasant, so I decided to build my home there.

At the time, I had also gotten back into the earliest elements of Minecraft, specifically, I had become fascinated with how the early game had this creepy atmosphere that permeated it, and the mythos of Herobrine intrigued me. It hadn't been long before this world started that I had been writing a Herobrine-based script, one that is still in active development.

Construction

I drew heavy inspiration for the cottage from the house featured in one of the most famous classic Minecraft videos ever: The Haunting. As I was in the middle of a nostalgia trip, I went back to watch it, and decided to base my cottage off of the house they built. It wasn't a 1:1 match, nor was it ever meant to be.

I started by laying down a stone base for the building, and used logs to mark the grid of the structure. Once that had been done, I began building the walls of the house using planks, glass, and logs. The cottage was located between two major bodies of water, with both sides immediately next to lakes. One side was the flowing water feature, which I wanted to disrupt as little as possible, with the exception of a stone slab bridge. On the other side, I created a boat dock inside the house. It took me a few hours, but I finished it.

I still return to this map and play on it fairly regularly. I haven't made any major adjustments to it, but I have some plans. I have also copied it over to the Telkit IV server, and made it as similar as I possibly could noting the terrain changes.
